“It's like busting open a musical time-capsule; fresh yet familiar, very funky! ”
BIO
Play For The Cat is a collective of established musicians, bringing groove-based, Minneapolis-inspired vibes into our modern era. "The Spirit of Prince Visits the Royal City".
All good groove-based music starts with a great drummer. Michael Bland has toured and played on records with Prince, Chaka Khan, Maxwell, France Gall, Nick Jonas, and Soul Asylum. All drums for the "Decade" release were recorded in Minneapolis, where Michael lives.
But what good are funky drum tracks without BASS! Dr. Moog and his infectiously pulsating synth lines resonate the BASS! Dr. Moog is very secretive, and may never reveal his true identity!
Funky guitar licks, stabs, and dance floor rhythms are layered by "multi-genre music master" Adrian Raso. Adrian has toured with Fanfare Ciocarlia. His Devil’s Tale album debuted at #1 on the World Music Charts Europe.
Vocal harmonies come from Bajan celebrity Tamara Marshall. Dubbed “The Diva of diversity”, Tamara has performed background vocals for many artists from Maxi-Priest to Gerry Rafferty. Tamara adds a magical yin energy to the "Decade" album.
Catchy vocal hooks and inspiring lyrics are written and performed by 80's DJ, Mike Levy.
The result of the collective is a great sounding record influenced by Prince, Bryan Ferry, Psychedelic Furs, Falco, Gnarls Barkley, INXS, and every soulful Billboard radio hit made.
Since the Decade release, Play For The Cat have performed on Humble & Fred Radio alongside Terra Lightfoot and Maestro Fresh Wes.
The band is entered in CBC Radio's Searchlight Contest 2019. Go and vote for their song Decisions.
